the assignment

I love a good to do list . The satisfaction in marking something as done is priceless . The challenge for me (and most of my clients) , lies with those tasks that your ambitious lil self added that keep rolling over . They may not be just the monotonous tasks of organizing your closet but the sincerely bonafide important goals you have for your life . They slip to the bottom of the list to be rewritten week after week , month after month and sadly sometimes year after year. For me, one of these “to do’s” is writing . Anyone who knows me quickly learns I can talk for days ( lol I truly was born for this therapist life)  , yet I also love pouring it out through words , pero ahi se quedó …on this proverbial internal do list .

I had the blessing a few weeks ago to take a quick trip to the island that brings me nothing but warmth , connection and ease and just as I recognized growth in the landscape of Puerto Rico , I recognize that was not achieved without the effort of its people . So , here I am preaching to myself and whoever reads this ,  if you are waiting for life to stop lifin’ so you can put effort into those tasks that bring you closer to a future you desire , stop. Respectfully , stop.

For a few minutes , block it out , set a timer , set that  dnd feature  and start somewhere . Even if all you have is 10 minutes , take that awkward wobbly first  step towards your postponed goals today . We know that a hope that is perpetually deferred makes the heart sick, the kind of sick you feel  in your soul . But today mama , today … read these simple sentences , this humble beginning as the living proof that a longing fulfilled is a tree of life. Question to consider … what’s the step you are setting aside for “someday” ?
